Oakwood Resort Then
Oakwood Resort stands on a piece of land rich in history, with a legacy spanning over a century. The story begins in 1893 when the Indiana Conference of the Evangelical Association purchased 40 acres of land, founding Oakwood Park. This scenic and peaceful location quickly became a hub for spiritual and community gatherings, hosting camp meetings, musical performances, educational programming, and worship services.
As the years passed, a portion of the land was developed to accommodate various communal buildings, including houses and tents, further establishing Oakwood as a gathering place for families and individuals alike. The grounds flourished, welcoming visitors who sought both rest and renewal.
In 1961, the property saw the construction of what is now known as the Event Center. Originally built as a place of worship and an administrative hub, this space became an integral part of Oakwood Park. Over the decades, the Event Center evolved, and by the late 1990s, it was revitalized and transformed into the beautiful venue it is today. Now, the Event Center serves as a stunning location for celebrations, weddings, and corporate events, continuing Oakwood’s legacy as a place for connection and community.
In 2012, Oakwood Resort underwent a significant change with the transition of ownership from the foundation to the Parent family. This new chapter brought the birth of the “Oakwood Resort” brand, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the property. Today, Oakwood Resort is a beloved destination known for its scenic beauty and exceptional venues, including the Event Center, Hilltop, Hillside Chapel, Pier & Back Porch, and the Oakwood Resort itself. These spaces serve as the heart of the property, offering our guests unforgettable experiences and a deep connection to the rich history of this special place.
